Matthew Westerby

Matthew Westerby Artistic Director is from the UK and trained at Laban, London. After graduating he worked with Thomas Small, Celia Grannum, NMO Dance, Combination Dance & Stuart Hopps. He arrived in New York in 2005, and has since performed with Nai-Ni Chen, Dusan Tynek, Risa Jaroslow, Sue Hogan, Peter Kyle, Bronwen McArthur, Marla Hirokawa and Tze Chun. His choreographic credits include commissions for Laban, the Dancewave Companies, Brass City Ballet (CT), Evolve Dance Company (NY), Evolve Dance West (AZ), the Dance Dept. at Naugatuck Valley Community College (CT) and Covenant Ballet Theatre, & has been choreographer in residence for Hudson Guild Theatre Company since 2012, recently creating La Pazza Vita with Bindlestiff Family Cirkus, inspired by the movies of Fellini and the tradition of circus arts. He co-collaborated on a NYC Parks and Dept. of Health sponsored project with Dreamyard to bring public art to Railroad Park in the Bronx, & works as a dance educator with all ages, at Sacred Heart University (CT), Dreamyard (Bronx), Covenant Ballet (Brooklyn) & Rivertown Dance Academy (Head of Modern Division, Tarrytown, NY). Matthew lives in Harlem with his husband Steven and their 5 year old Pit mix, Macy Grey.
