City of Ashes is a new full length contemporary dance work marking the advent of the AIDS crisis in New York City. A multi-disciplinary collaboration with composers David Friend,
Bill Solomon and John P. Hastings and lighting designer Mike Riggs, the piece evokes the magnitude of human loss and the strength of a community determined to survive.

The program also features two short new works –
The Counterfactual, a work for four women exploring the What If? of our everyday lives, and a new work for MWC2, the Company’s 2nd Company of performers.

The Harlem Project 2025

Since 2016, the Harlem Project has been building community and bringing together young people from across NYC to create and perform alongside our professional artists. And we’re back for another year! This year, we celebrate the richness of our diverse origins while recognizing the strength that comes from connection and collaboration.

Join us in Marcus Garvey Park’s Amphitheater for a FREE performance by our cast of 75 dancers, and join a community Zumba workshop before the show. See you in the Park!

MWC’s programs are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.

This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
