Matthew Westerby Company (MWC) is a New York City Department of Education vendor, delivering accessible and inclusive dance education in public, charter, and private schools across NYC and New Jersey. For the past 15 years, the Company has brought high-quality programs to schools, colleges, dance training institutions, and community partners, always guided by its mission to make the performing arts available to all—regardless of age, experience, or ability to pay.

  • MWC offers dance workshops tailored to a particular age or education level, from children to undergraduate dance students. Starting with a structured dance technique introduction emphasizing changes of weight with grounded and full-bodied movement, the workshop focuses on choreographic processes through collaborative tasks, improvisation and problem solving. As part of the workshop MWC repertory is performed by Company dancers to inspire students and further their own process.

  • The Company is available for longer residencies in schools, dance training programs and colleges. A 1 - 4 week program can be designed with age and education level in mind; emphasis can be centered on contemporary dance technique, choreographic work or repertory, or a combination of these areas to give student dancers a full insight into the work of MWC.

  • MWC has delivered dance education programs for schools in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Available for both in-school and afterschool workshops and residencies, the Company can deliver programs in various genres of dance, all focusing upon creating authentic artistic voices at every age, highlighting collaboration, creativity and inclusion. Company teaching artists work in partnership with schools and teachers to design workshops that are connected to classroom curricula, following dance standards as outlined in the NYC Department of Education’s Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts.
